Creative Writing

For the first time since the 1990s, the National Festival of Arts proudly welcomes the return of creative writing— an art form that ignites the imagination, captures emotions, and gives young people an outlet to express their experiences and views.

This collection brings together the literary voices of Belize’s youth and demonstrates the wonder and power of creative writing. Each poem and story reveals the creativity, talent and boldness of our young writers. Some feature adventure, others reveal personal truths, but each piece demonstrates the courage it takes to put words on a page and share them with the world.

At the Institute of Creative Arts (NICH), we are committed to nurturing all forms of artistic expression, and this publication is a reflection of that mission. We champion literature as an essential pillar of the creative arts. We must nurture our young poets, novelists, playwrights and screenwriters.

To the students whose works are published here: Whether you write to entertain, challenge or inspire, know that you are contributing to Belize’s creative future. Your voice matters.
